Grazing 2023
We turned the cows out at the end of March, as the grass was growing well & the ground conditions were coping with the cows grazing.
Things started to get a little difficult when we had lots of rain during the beginning of April, as the ground conditions were extremely wet, meaning the cows could only graze for a few hours per day once the ground had dried up.
We’re now out the other side, with ground conditions drying up & grass growth is doing very well.
We’re paddock grazing, meaning the cows will graze one paddock off during the day then we will open up a new one for them to graze over night. This gives the grass time to rest & grow, ready to be grazed again in a few weeks time.
Each cow has an eartag which is linked to our out of parlour feeders at the farm. This dispenses a set amount of food per cow. We work out their amount of food based on many factors such as whereabouts they are in their lactation, condition, yield & lots more. This food also ensures their energy levels are maintained to keep them happy & healthy.
The cows food contains no soya or palm oil, which is extremely important to us in striving to look after our environment.
